The Nutrition Improvement Program has already helped many alliances to succeed, for example:
- in Venezuela, where mandatory fortification of wheat flour with iron, vitamin B1, B2 and niacin, and fortification of precooked corn flour with the same nutrients plus vitamin A, has decreased iron deficiency by 16%.
- in Chile, where mandatory fortification of wheat flour with folic acid has significantly reduced the risk of neural tube defects in newborns;
- in South Africa, where multinutrient fortification of wheat flour and maize meal is mandatory since 2003.
